Sensational Saturday-February 29

There was a carnival atmosphere at our Sensational Saturday event on Leap Day, February 29. Louise Irvine invited visitors to fall in love with WMODA all over again by highlighting all the affairs of the heart and carnival fun in the museum exhibits.

More than 200 visitors spent the day at the museum and Kimberly Sheridan took many of them on docent tours of the collection. Jazmine McLeod brought our Carnival & Cabaret exhibit to life wearing spectacular Caribbean carnival costumes that she borrowed for the occasion. Visitors were busy with their smartphones posting photos of Jazmine and the festivities on social media, having picked up a few tips from Lloyd Goradesky.

Lloyd talked about his fascinating career as a public artist and photographer. He astonished his audience with his underwater photographs of gators, which led to his famous floating art installation Gator in the Bay.  Now he is spreading his message of universal love and kindness with his latest project Let Love Guide Your Way.

Diane and Mauro from Italianissimo set up their successful pop-up shop of Murano glass jewelry and Carolina Bermudez did a roaring trade at the WMODA shop, ably assisted by Elyse Buchanan. Luis Montanez kept everything running smoothly throughout the day and signed up guests for our monthly Highlights newsletter. Thank you also to our wonderful team of volunteers – we couldn’t put on our Sensational Saturday programs without you – Claudia Bailey, Bernette Bowen, Scherry Donato, George Hawthorn, Jim Read, Linda Saft, Patti Hague, Maria Rivera, Alisa Melchanova.

Register now for our next Sensational Saturday event on March 21 when we are going Out of this World.
