Ardmore’s Satara Suite

By Louise Irvine

WMODA visitors loved the museum’s previous Jabula and Safari Dance exhibitions which included Ardmore wallpaper and textiles. In Hollywood, we have reimagined them in our new Ardmore Design Shop, where you can purchase wall coverings, pillows and table linens to enliven your home with the spirit of Africa. You can draw inspiration from the stunning new Satara Suite at the Fairlawns Boutique Hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa, which has been described as a testament to the harmonious fusion of art, craftsmanship, and hospitality.

This unique hotel suite was envisioned by Fée Halsted, Ardmore’s founder and artistic director, and Michael Kewley, creative and managing director of Fairlawns. Michael chose Ardmore’s Leopard Walk wallpaper from the first Cole & Son collection for the suite’s bathroom matched with the Cheetah Kings fabric for the seating. The curtains and ottomans in the bedroom are embellished with Ardmore’s Thanda Nests fabric and the pillows depict dancing elephants and pangolins. Ardmore ceramic lamps and vases add to the exotic experience.

The most remarkable feature of the new Satara Suite is an awe-inspiring mural hand-painted by two of Ardmore’s acclaimed artists, Sydney Hadeba and Wiseman Mpofu. Together they adorned the wall measuring 26 ¼ by 9 ¾ feet with a tapestry of vibrant flora and fauna reminiscent of Africa’s untamed wilderness. Fée drew inspiration from the evocative Jabula wallpaper collection, infusing elements from the Satara and Protea Fields designs to transport guests into the continent’s pristine wild places.

While a hand-painted mural may be out of reach, a room can be transformed  with Ardmore wallpaper by Cole & Son, which is distributed in the USA by Kravet, our neighbors in the South Florida Design Center. They donated rolls of vibrant wallpaper which have been used to decorate the Ardmore Design Shop at the museum. The Cole & Son’s pattern books can be browsed, and orders placed at WMODA. Guests can also order Ardmore fabric by the yard and purchase pillows, poufs and table linens at the museum. Call for more details at 954-376-6690.
