Micky Wolfson’s 80th Birthday was celebrated in considerable style by the Wolfsonian-FIU. A street party in Miami Beach launched the festivities along with a private viewing at the museum of A Universe of Things celebrating Micky’s collecting history.  The Fairyland Lustre Dragon King vase, which was Arthur Wiener’s birthday gift, looks stunning on display in the Wolfsonian.  On December 2, a veritable who’s who of the Miami art world gathered at a party on Star Island to honor Micky.

More than 300 guests came bearing gifts of friendship and talismans of Micky memories. They added messages to a wall of keys that symbolized Micky’s first childhood collection, which began when he playfully pocketed a hotel room key on a family trip. That first key opened the door to Micky’s world of collecting and the foundation of the Wolfsonian-FIU Museum, a storehouse of wonders and home to more than 200,000 items.
