Honoring Louise

The Ancient Spanish Monastery in Miami is honoring Louise Irvine, our Executive Director & Curator, during their 10th Diamond Legacy “Gala in the Garden” on January 23. Louise is being recognized for her remarkable leadership and for elevating arts and culture in our community. Through her curatorial role at WMODA for the last ten years, Louise has presented countless exhibitions and events celebrating the Fired Arts and highlighting the talents of many artists working in our community. Join us at the Ancient Spanish Monastery to acknowledge Louise’s outstanding achievements.

Louise is a Fine Arts graduate from Scotland and first developed her special interest in British ceramics fifty years ago. She became an expert in Royal Doulton art pottery and the author of many books for collectors. Louise’s career has been devoted to creating a greater appreciation of the Fired Arts through her publications, lectures, and exhibitions. Her lecture tours and events in North America led to an opportunity to live and work in Miami, and her contribution to the world of ceramic art was recognized by the State of Florida in 2015.

Louise joined WMODA when the museum was founded 10 years ago and has developed its reputation as a world-class collection and cultural destination in South Florida. Her passion for the Fired Arts expanded to include American studio glass, notably the work of Dale Chihuly and other modern masters. Louise also provides a platform for contemporary artists working in our community, initially at the museum’s original location in Dania Beach and now in its new Hollywood home. The recent relocation of the museum was a monumental undertaking, and Louise’s leadership was applauded with the presentation of the Museum Excellence Award by the Florida Association of Museums in 2023.

Louise is thrilled to be recognized by the Ancient Spanish Monastery Foundation alongside other community champions and friends of WMODA, including public artist Lloyd Goradesky, who was honored in 2024, and Laurence Panadero, master sculptor who was honored in 2022. Proceeds from the Legacy Gala support the mission of preserving and maintaining the 12th-century historic building and its beautiful botanical garden.
