Fashion Show at 12:00 noon
At the stroke of noon on January 22, glass art at WMODA will come to life as we launch the United Nations International Year of Glass and celebrate Fort Lauderdale Art & Design Week. Iconic characters from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll will show off their zany costumes in a fashion show featuring wearable glass art. Alice will follow the White Rabbit down the rabbit hole and through the looking glass to the Mad Hatter’s tea party. On her way, she will encounter some of the bizarre residents of Wonderland including the formidable Queen of Hearts, the March Hare, and the grinning Cheshire Cat presented by fashion designer and glass artist, Chelsea Rousso.
It gets “curiouser and curiouser” as Chelsea is also working with fine art photographer, Suzanne Barton, to reimagine Alice’s impossible dreamscape underwater. Highlights of their unbelievable collaboration will be exhibited as part of this special event. Don’t be late for this very important date!
The Wearable Glass in Wonderland fashion show was made possible with support from the Broward County Cultural Division and fabrics were supplied by Jeffrey Michaels Design and their associates and set design fabrics were provided by Valley Forge. Admission to WMODA is free that day.
The pre-reserved seats have sold out but there will be plenty of standing room to enjoy the fashion show. After the Alice in Wonderland characters have made their debut on the runway, they will be on location in the museum galleries for photo opportunities until 2:00 pm.
Museum admission is FREE on Saturday, January 22 from 10am to 4pm to celebrate the start of Fort Lauderdale Art & Design Week.
