2025 is the centennial of the Art Deco movement and the city of Hollywood, home to the new WMODA. These milestones are celebrated at the museum, which features a gallery dedicated to the Roaring Twenties and the Glamorous Thirties.
The 1925 Paris World’s Fair of decorative art gave rise to a new international design style, which became known as Art Deco. The style is characterized by streamlined, geometric designs, bold colors and the use of luxurious materials, reflecting an appreciation for modernity and machine-made objects.
Ceramic artists such as Clarice Cliff introduced vibrant vases decorated with colorful geometric motifs to brighten up homes after the trauma of World War I. Porcelain statuettes by British and European designers portrayed alluring women in the flapper fashions of the 1920s.
During the “Golden Age of Hollywood” in the 1930s, sensual pin-up photos of the stars inspired vamps and divas from stage and screen by celebrated ceramic companies, including Royal Doulton, Goldscheider and Rosenthal.
