An Ardmore Love Affair

By Louise Irvine

Arthur Wiener, the founder of WMODA, loves Ardmore Ceramic Art and has a vast collection at the museum which we are currently resetting. In recent years, he has also fallen in love with Ardmore Design and purchased sofas and love seats for the collection. We can’t wait to see the new Thanda limited edition sofa which was inspired by a wedding and made with love in South Africa.

Fée Halsted, Ardmore’s founder, celebrated her son’s wedding at the beautiful Thanda game lodge in northern KwaZulu Natal. Thanda means love in the Zulu language and the wedding was a memorable occasion for Fée. While reveling in Jonathan and Kate’s big day, Fee was also busy absorbing the flora and fauna of this Big Five safari game reserve.

The new Thanda sofa in the Pangolin Park pattern features the endangered pangolin with a leopard, zebra and kudu in a fantasy jungle. The lush pattern was designed by the Ardmore Studio team and hand painted by Sidney Nyabeze. The statement sofa is covered in a robust linen and viscose fabric mix and is presented in a limited edition of 40. The Thanda sofa follows the elegant styling of the Zambezi limited edition sofa at WMODA which sold out years ago.

There are some gorgeous new fabric patterns in the latest launch including Thanda Nests featuring weaver birds, Thanda Toile with elephants and giraffes, Thanda Tortoise an interpretation of tortoiseshell, and Safari Spot, which is Ardmore’s take on the leopard pattern. The new patterns are available by the yard in linen, velvet, outdoor fabric and pillows. The Ardmore Studio is also using the new range to cover chairs, console tables and ottomans which are made to order.

The Ardmore Design collection of home décor will be a major feature of the new WMODA museum shop in Hollywood when we reopen in the summer. A wide range of pillows, poufs, furniture, and table linens will be available again for purchase in the museum and special orders can be arranged for direct shipping. In the meantime, you can contact the museum shop for more details by phone or email. Call 954.376.6690 or email [email protected]. All sales benefit the museum programs at WMODA which is a 501c3 organization.
