Laurence Panadero – Magical Masks

Laurence Panadero is a French artist living in Miami. She studied art in Paris and Rome and specializes in sculpture, large scale installations and performance. Laurence expresses herself in many different media and her commissions have ranged from theater scenography and art direction to monumental sculptures for museums and exhibitions. Her technical skills as a sculptor have been perfected while producing prototypes for diverse companies such as Dior, Disney, Warner Brothers and Marvel Comics. She established VIM,  a non-profit organization to produce and promote artistic creations for spectacles, events and exhibitions, and has represented more than 100 artists from emerging to renowned. Since becoming a mother, Laurence has taught art in Miami, including projects for children and paint and sip classes with a Parisian twist for adults at the Velvet House Art Studio.  She is currently working on a major project for Art Basel.

At our Artistry in Action event on March 7th, Laurence will demonstrate how she makes ceramic masks inspired by our Carnival & Cabaret exhibition. She will show some of her sculpting, molding, firing, and hand-painting techniques to create face masks of the type fashionable in the Art Deco era.

At Laurence’s workshop on Friday, March 23rd from 1:00pm to 3:30pm, you will learn how to make and decorate miniature masks for wall ornaments or to wear as pins, pendants and ear rings. Cost $60 to include 2 ½ hours expert tuition, all materials and fired miniature masks to take home with you.
