Exquisitely painted floral vases by porcelain artists seduced European aristocrats in the 18th and 19th centuries. Today the public are captivated by the abstract glass installations of Dale Chihuly in botanical gardens around the world. These radically different artistic interpretations of flowers and plants are among the highlights of the WMODA exhibition, which also recreates the sensual delights of an English rose garden and a tropical orchid paradise.
Rare antiques, vintage designs and modern works from the finest art potteries around the world are represented in this exhibition, including Royal Doulton and Moorcroft from England, Lladrò from Spain, Boehm from the USA and Ardmore from South Africa. Chihuly’s new ‘Macchia Garden’ exhibit at WMODA and his Ikebana flower arrangements highlight how nature has inspired contemporary glass art. The Seduction of the Flower also explores the symbolism of the flowers associated with Aphrodite, the goddess of love, and the Victorian Language of Flowers.
